Pear and gorgonzola pizza, with a drizzle of honey. Perfect for the fall season when pears are at their best!

Pizza lovers unite! This pear and gorgonzola pizza is, in my husband’s exact words,
good- like really good.

It’s basically one of my favorite fall sandwiches in pizza form- gorgonzola, ripe pear, and honey. It is, in my own words, da bomb.

Or in 2022 speak, this pizza is fire! However you say it, this pear and gorgonzola pizza is delish. With a drizzle of honey, when it’s hot out of the oven, mmmm.

Try this combo on pizza and I promise you won’t regret it!

Oh and BTW, this recipe is this month’s Cozy Mystery Cooking Club recipe! We read A Slice of Murder by Chris Cavender- the first in the Pizza Lover’s Mysteries.

Pear + Gorgonzola Pizza with Honey

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Very straight forward ingredients with this pizza.

  • 1 prepared pizza dough, 16 oz. (store bought or homemade)
  • Optional: cornmeal for bottom of crust
  • 8 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 pear, sliced thin
  • ½ cup Gorgonzola cheese crumbles
  • 2 tbsp honey
a slice of pizza with a bite out of it
Do I have to make my own pizza dough?

Nope! I used prepared pizza dough (btw if you have pizza dough rolling tips, hit me up, cause I always struggle with it!). You could also use a favorite homemade dough recipe.

Why is cornmeal in this pizza recipe?

The cornmeal is optional, but I find a sprinkle on the bottom of the crust gives it a nice crunch and authentic pizza parlor flavor. I usually put a sprinkle of it on the bottom of my pizza pan, and then lay the prepared pizza dough on top.

What kind of cheese can I use for this pizza recipe?

For the mozzarella, I used a ball and shredded it myself, but you can use what you can find. The mozzarella is a mild cheese, which is why I chose it, since the gorgonzola is quite sharp. If you don’t like mozzarella, or you can’t find it, I would suggest using another mild flavored cheese. And finally, the gorgonzola cheese can be replaced with another blue cheese if you can’t find it.

Can this pear and gorgonzola pizza be frozen?

Yes, it can be. Freeze it after cooking, and before adding the honey. When you want to eat it, defrost it and heat it up in the oven until the cheese is all melty again. Add the drizzle of honey when it’s hot out of the oven. The pear texture might change a little bit, but it will still be delicious!

One last note- make sure your pear is ripe. I used Bartlett pears here, but any pear would work as long as it’s ripe. A red pear would look nice against the pizza!

What do you think about this pear and gorgonzola pizza? Is it a combination you’ll want to try? I may be biased, but I really think you’ll like it!

It’s also pretty easy- I found that rolling out the pizza dough was the hardest and most time consuming part. The rest of it is just topping! And then eating of course. Which is definitely the easiest part.

Total Time:38 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared pizza dough 16 oz. (store-bought or homemade)
  • Optional: cornmeal for the bottom of crust
  • 8 oz. mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 pear sliced thin
  • ½ cup Gorgonzola cheese crumbles
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions

  • Get your pizza dough ready for topping. Cover the bottom of the crust with cornmeal if you would like.
  • Evenly sprinkle the crust with the mozzarella cheese. Place the pear slices on top of the mozzarella, leaving a little space in between the slices.
  • Sprinkle the Gorgonzola cheese crumbles over the top of everything.
  • Bake according to your crust instructions (I did 18 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit), but keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn. Bake until the crust is baked through and the cheese is melted.
  • Drizzle the honey evenly on the pizza while it’s still hot. Cut and serve!
