cozy books for fall

One of the best activities of fall, in my opinion, is snuggling up with a blanket, a snack, a warm drink, and reading as many cozy books as possible!

Even better if they are fall themed cozy books! And even even better, is if they are mysteries!

I am a huge fan of cozy mysteries, and if you haven’t been around here yet, I even have a cozy mystery cooking club with my gal Linda from Sip + Sanity.

I’ve been reading cozy mysteries since college…once I read my first one, I was totally hooked and have been reading them ever since!

The cozy vibes, lovely descriptions, oftentimes food, friends, family, and a little bit of mystery are what draw me to this genre of books. It just feels like coming home, and hanging out with old friends when you find a cozy mystery series you really love!

But before I wax and wane too much on my love of cozy mysteries- cause I can definitely get carried away- let’s get to the point of this post…

I wanted to share the best cozy mystery books to read in the fall! So you can also grab some cozy books, curl up, and feel all the fall vibes.

If you like the sound of that, read on below to see the list!

Best Fall Cozy Books for the Mystery Lover

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder

This is a Hannah Swensen mystery and it’s the first cozy mystery series I have ever read! It’s the one that started it all for me. Chocolate Chip Cookie murder is fall themed, and it’s the first book in the series.

Catering to Nobody

This is the first book in the Goldy Shulz mystery series. This is another older cozy mystery series, and one of the first I read. Also one of my favorite! Features Goldy, owner of a catering service who gets wrapped up in murder. This first book is fall themed of course!

Trick Or Treat Murder

This one is, as you may have guessed, a Halloween themed cozy mystery! It’s the third one of the Lucy Stone mystery series. I love this series and it is another old favorite! There are a lot of books in this one- and some other fall ones in the series are: Turkey Day Murder, Wicked Witch Murder, Candy Corn Murder, Turkey Trot Murder, and Haunted House Murder.

The Diva Runs Out of Thyme

Okay, now this is my absolute FAVORITE cozy mystery series that I have read. From the moment I read this book, which is Thanksgiving themed and the first book in the Domestic Diva mystery series, I was hooked. Highly recommend! The other fall (Halloween) themed book in the series is The Diva Haunts the House.

Books Can Be Deceiving

This series is great for a book lover- as it features the director of a library in a quaint little coastal town. I adore this series as well (feel like I’m saying that a lot haha!) and it gives all the cozy feels. This one is the first in the Library Lover’s mystery series, and is set in the fall. Two other fall themed books in this series are: Read It and Weep and Death in the Stacks.

Murder By the Slice

This is book 2 of the Fresh-Baked Mystery Series, which has several fall themed mysteries in it! I love this series, for the amazing characters (a group of retired school teachers), setting, delicious recipe descriptions, and cozy feels. The other fall themed books in this series are: The Pumpkin Muffin Murder, Trick or Deadly Treat, and Death Bakes a Pecan Pie.

Dead and Berried

This fall mystery is the second in the Gray Whale Inn mystery series. If you want a cozy setting, I’m not sure you’ll find a better one than this! Set on a remote island, this mystery centers around an Inn and an amazing cast of characters and delicious food. There is a second fall themed book in the series, the tenth one: Anchored Inn.

Deadly Brew

Written by the same author as the Gray Whale Inn mystery series (above), this is another amazingly cozy mystery series. Set on a farm in Texas, this series has a couple fall themed mysteries. Deadly Brew is the third book in the series, and is Halloween themed. You’ll love the food and characters in this one too! The other fall themed book in this series is Wicked Harvest.

On What Grounds

Okay, so I actually did read this one already, but it was soooo long ago! The only thing I really remember was that I really liked the series and the setting. So I want to get back into this one. This book is set in the fall and it is the first of the Coffee House mysteries.

A Waffle Lot of Murder

This is book 4 of the All-Day Breakfast Café mystery series. I have not read this one yet, but I have read the first three books. This is one of my favorite cozy series as well! I love the All-Day Breakfast Café and the characters are awesome. It is set in Florida, but is fall themed…and there’s pumpkin waffles! We are currently reading the first of this series in the Cozy Mystery Cooking Club!

Wine and Punishment

This is the first book in the Literary Pub mysteries and the setting sounds like it could not be more perfect for fall! A small town in Vermont, a bookish pub, an Autumn Festival, and a little bit of murder! This series sounds like a lot of fun and I look forward to checking it out!

A Pairing to Die For

Just the cover alone of this one is enough to make me want to read it! How cozy does it look?! This is the second book in the newer cozy mystery series, Colorado Wine mysteries. Aside from the perfect fall cover, this cozy mystery sounds intriguing! Added for sure!

Death of a Tart

This is an older series, and it’s hard to find info on it- but I read that it was a fall themed mystery and it sounds super cozy! Taking place in a small New England town, this series has three books, and if I’m not mistaken, I think they all take place during the fall! Very cool!

In the Company of Witches

This one is not even out yet but I already have my eye on it! This will be the first book in the Evenfall Witches B&B mysteries. Since it has not been released, I can’t say for sure whether it’s set in the fall. But! The setting sounds cozy, the plot is promising, and the fact that it has witches, magic, and of course, a murder, leads me to believe it will be a good one for reading around Halloween!
